Instructions
Prepare the Dough:
In a mixing bowl, combine 300 grams of flour with 3 grams of yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar.
Gradually add 165 grams of warm water(35-40°C or 95-104°F) , mixing until the dough forms clumps.
Knead the dough until it becomes smooth. If it’s not smooth enough, keep kneading; this takes some time and patience. A smooth dough will ensure that the steamed buns have a smooth and delicate surface.
Shape the Dough:
Divide the dough into 12 equal portions.
Take 1 gram of pink food dye powder or pink beetroot juice and mix it into one portion of dough to create a pink-colored dough.
Roll the remaining dough portions into circles, and wrap each piece around 15 grams of red bean paste. Shape the filled dough into a round bun.
Decorate the Buns:
Use the pink dough to form small ovals for the pig’s ears and snout. If you don't have molds, roll the dough into small balls and press them into the desired shape.
Attach the pink dough shapes to the buns to form the pig’s ears and snout.
Use black beans to create the pig’s eyes, and use a bamboo skewer to poke two nostrils in the snout.
Proof the Buns:
Heat water in a pot to 35-40°C (95-104°F). Place the buns in a steamer basket and set the basket over the pot to proof the buns for about 30 minutes.
Steam the Buns:
Once the buns have proofed, remove them and bring the water to a boil. Then, return the buns to the steamer and steam them for 12 minutes.
After steaming, turn off the heat and let the buns rest in the pot for an additional 3 minutes before removing them.
