If you’ve never tried making dinner rolls in the air fryer, you’re in for a treat. These soft, fluffy, and golden rolls are so easy to make and come out perfectly every time. Whether for a family meal or a dinner party, these rolls are sure to impress!

Why I Love My Air Fryer

When I first discovered the magic of the air fryer, I was absolutely sold.

It quickly became my go-to kitchen tool!

Not only does it make cooking and baking incredibly easy, but it also helps achieve that perfect crispiness without the hassle of deep-frying.Air Fryer Dinner Rolls (1)

Whether it’s making crispy chicken wings or baking delicious dough-based treats, the air fryer has proven itself to be versatile and reliable.

I’ve shared a few recipes in the past, like my Air Fryer Scones and Air-Fried Pumpkin Sesame Mochi Balls, and the results never disappoint.

Now, let’s talk about these Air Fryer Dinner Rolls. They’re nothing short of amazing—soft, airy, and irresistibly fragrant with the milky aroma.

I love serving these rolls for breakfast, especially alongside a warm cup of milk.Air Fryer Dinner Rolls (2)Air Fryer Dinner Rolls (3)

No stand mixer

What makes this recipe even better is how effortless it is. You don’t need a stand mixer, and there’s almost no need for kneading the dough at all.

This means you get all the soft, pillowy goodness of freshly baked rolls without the extra effort.

Honestly, I can’t imagine a quicker or easier way to make bread compared to more traditional methods, like when I make Walnut Buns or Fluffy Mushroom Steamed Buns.

Ingredients

  • 140g milk
  • 1 egg
  • 30g white sugar
  • 3g yeast
  • 3g salt
  • 250g all-purpose flour
  • 20g softened butter (or vegetable oil as a substitute)
  • Egg yolk for glazing
  • Sesame seeds for decoration

Instructions

Mix the Liquid Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine 140g of milk, 30g of white sugar, 1 egg, 3g of yeast, and 3g of salt. Use chopsticks or a whisk to mix until the sugar and yeast dissolve completely and the ingredients are well combined.Mix the Liquid IngredientsUse chopsticks or a whisk to mix

Add the Flour: Gradually add 250g of flour into the liquid mixture. Use a scraper to stir until the flour is fully incorporated, forming a slightly rough dough. The dough might be a bit sticky at this point, which is normal.Add the FlourUse a scraper to stir

Add Butter and Combine: Add 20g of softened butter into the dough (or vegetable oil if using). Continue mixing with a scraper until the butter (or oil) is fully absorbed and the dough becomes smooth and shiny.Add 20g of softened butter into the doughContinue mixing with a scraper

Chill for Hydration: Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20 minutes. Hydrating the dough helps the flour absorb moisture, making the dough easier to handle later and improving the bread’s texture.Cover the dough with plastic wrap

Knead the Dough: After refrigerating, remove the dough from the fridge. The dough will be firmer. Gently pull and press the dough repeatedly until it becomes smooth. Be careful not to tear the gluten, as this will affect the bread’s texture.Gently pull and press the dough repeatedly

First Fermentation: Cover the kneaded dough with plastic wrap and place it in a warm spot, such as a warm room or an oven with a fermentation setting (ideally at 30-35°C). Let it ferment until the dough has doubled in size.

Punch Down and Divide: After fermentation, the dough will be filled with air bubbles. Transfer it to a flat surface and gently press down to release the air. Then, use a knife or scraper to divide the dough into 8 equal portions.the dough will be filled with air bubblespress down the dough to release the airuse a knife or scraper to divide the dough

Shape into Balls: Take one portion of dough and fold it in from the outside to the center, shaping it into a ball. Use your palms to roll the dough, making the surface smooth and firm. Repeat with the remaining portions.Shape into Balls

Prepare and Place in Air Fryer: Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Place the shaped dough balls in the air fryer, leaving enough space between them as they will expand during the second fermentation and baking.Place the shaped dough balls in the air fryer

Second Fermentation and Decoration: Let the dough balls rest in a warm place for 25 minutes to allow them to rise. Once risen, brush the surface of each ball with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds for decoration.brush the surface of each ball with egg yolksprinkle with sesame seeds

Baking: Set the air fryer to 140°C and bake for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, carefully flip the bread using chopsticks or tongs and bake for another 10 minutes at 140°C. Keep an eye on the bread’s color through the air fryer’s glass—when the surface turns golden brown and the aroma fills the air, the bread is done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a regular oven instead of an air fryer?

Yes, you can bake these rolls in a regular oven at 165°C for about 20 minutes, or until they are golden and cooked through.

Can I use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour?

Yes, you can! Bread flour has a higher protein content, which gives the rolls a slightly chewier texture. However, they will still turn out soft and delicious.

What if I don‘t have sesame seeds? No worries! You can skip the sesame seeds or substitute them with other toppings like poppy seeds, herbs, or even cheese for a different flavor.
