About Taro:Taro

Taro is a starchy root vegetable belonging to the Araceae family, scientifically known as Colocasia esculenta. It is widely cultivated and used in various cuisines around the world, particularly in Asia and the Pacific Islands.

Taro typically has a rough, brown outer skin and a creamy white or purple flesh inside, depending on the variety. It is versatile in cooking and is used in both sweet and savory dishes, such as taro sago dessert, taro cakes, taro chips, and taro bubble tea.

One-Pot Wonder:

Using only one pot and five ingredients, you can whip up this delightful dessert quickly. Unlike mango sago, where the mango remains uncooked, here the taro and sago are simmered together, saving time without sacrificing flavor. This method of cooking sago differs slightly from that used in mango sago.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium taro, peeled and diced
  • Rock sugar, to taste
  • 1/2 cup sago pearls
  • Boiling water
  • Coconut milk or fresh milk

Instructions:

1. Peel and dice the taro into small pieces. Place them in a clay pot.

2. Add rock sugar to taste. Add the sago pearls to the pot.Add rock sugar Add the sago pearls

3. Pour boiling water over the taro and sago mixture. Stir to prevent sticking.Pour boiling water over the taro and sago mixture

4. Cover with a lid and simmer over low heat for 15 minutes.

5. Turn off the heat and let it sit covered for another 30 minutes.

6. Stir in coconut milk or fresh milk to your preference.Stir in coconut milk

Chill the dessert for better texture before serving.
