Steamed pork patty with lotus root is easy, healthy, juicy, and nutritious. It can be prepared in less than 30 minutes, making it ideal for both children and adults.

What is Lotus root

Lotus root refers to the edible rhizome of the lotus plant (Nelumbo nucifera). It is a popular vegetable in Asian cuisine, particularly in Chinese and Japanese cooking. Lotus root has a crunchy texture and a mildly sweet flavor. It is commonly used in soups, stir-fries, and as an ingredient in various dishes, prized for its nutritional benefits and unique taste.steam minced pork with lotus root3

Steamed pork patty with lotus root is straightforward to make, yet achieving perfect results requires attention to a few key tips.

  • Choose the Right Meat: Ideally, use pork collar butt, which I often use for making char siu. If unavailable, opt for pork with a balanced ratio of about 70% lean meat to 30% fat. This balance ensures the steamed pork patty stays juicy and flavorful, minimizing the risk of it drying out during cooking.
  • Hand-Chop the Meat: When making Steamed Pork Patty, chopping the meat with a knife instead of blending it with a machine results in a much better texture. This method keeps the meat finer and enhances the overall mouthfeel. It prevents the meat from becoming overly processed, preserving its texture and ensuring the steamed patties are more flavorful and enjoyable to eat.
  • Seasoning: Balance the flavors with light soy sauce, oyster sauce, and a touch of sugar. Adjust seasoning to taste, keeping in mind that the sauces provide saltiness and depth of flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 200g lotus root, washed, peeled, and finely chopped
  • 300g pork (70% lean, 30% fat), finely chopped
